3In a large saucepan over medium heat, pour in 4 tablespoons olive oil and when hot add onion, 1 bayleaf, 1 sprig thyme, 1 garlic clove, salt and pepper.

Cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly.

6Cover, lower the heat and cook gently until the beans are tender.

Remove and discard the bay leaf, thyme sprig and garlic clove.

Remarks

You can use cooked green beans if you prefer, but of course the cooking time will be much shorter.
Cheddar cheese can be replaced by another hard cheese of your choice (Comté, Tomme, etc.), but this is not a requirement.
