Cooking in a pressure cooker, often called a "rice-cooker", is a simple and practical way to cook rice: you don't have to watch it, it's quick (15 minutes) and the appliance switches to the "keep warm" position automatically.

For 500 g, you will need:
  • 1 rice 400 g rice
  • 2 water 750 ml water
  • 3 salt salt
  • 4 butter 1 knob butter (optional)
  • Total weight: 1,150 grams

Step by step recipe


Stage 1 - ⌛ 1 min.

Pour 400 g rice into a colander.

Note: Rice cookers often come with a handy measuring cup, which holds 150 g of rice.

Stage 2 - ⌛ 1 min.

Wash rice by under tap for about 30 seconds.

Tip washed rice into rice-cooker.

Add 750 ml water, salt and stir.

Note that the ratio of rice to water is: For 1 scoop of rice, add 1.5 scoops of water.

Another tip: The water should reach about 1 phalanx, or 1 cm, above the rice.

Stage 6

Switch on rice-cooker (the red "cooking" light should be on), and cover.

Stage 7 - ⌛ 15 min.

After about 15 minutes, you'll hear a "clack" and the "keep warm" indicator will light up.

Discover, your rice is cooked.

Stage 8 - ⌛ 1 min.

Stir it with a wooden spoon to prevent it from clumping, and you can add a knob of butter.

If you're not using the rice straight away, leave it covered, but unplug the rice cooker to prevent it from drying out.
Remarks
For tastier rice you can use chicken stock instead of water, or add a little chicken or meat cooking juice, or add a chicken stock cube to the water.
