Sesame rice is a simple recipe: once cooked, the rice is dressed with a drizzle of sesame oil, then mixed with toasted sesame seeds.

This delicious double sesame flavour makes it an ideal accompaniment for meat or fish.

Step by step recipe


Stage 1 - 10 min.
Sesame rice
Cook 1 lb + 6.8 oz rice using whatever method you prefer, for example in a rice-cooker.

Stage 2 - 5 min.
Sesame rice
Meanwhile toast 3.2 oz sesame seeds for 5 minutes in a small frying pan on medium heat...

Stage 3
Sesame rice
...stirring frequently.

Stage 4 - 1 min.
Sesame rice
When the rice is cooked, add 3.2 oz sesame oil...

Stage 5 - 1 min.
Sesame rice
...and mix.

Stage 6 - 1 min.
Sesame rice
Add the toasted sesame seeds...

Stage 7 - 1 min.
Sesame rice
...and mix again.

Your sesame rice is ready.

The quantities of sesame oil and seeds are approximate, so do feel free to adapt them to suit your own taste.
