These grated potato cakes (similar to hash browns, but without the onion) can be deep or pan fried. They are excellent with meat, but quite delicious on their own. Children love them.

Step by step recipe


Stage 1 - ⌛ 10 min.
Grated potato cakes : Stage 1
Peel 350 g potatoes and rinse.

Stage 2 - ⌛ 5 min.

Grate the potatoes fairly coarsly.

Stage 3 - ⌛ 2 min.

Transfer the grated potatoes to colander or strainer and rinse thoroughly (the water running through the potatoes should be clear).

Drain thoroughly.

Dry the potatoes on a tea towel.

Tip the potatoes into a bowl, salt and pepper, then add 1 egg.

Mix well.

Add 1 tablespoon flour and mix again.

Stage 8 - ⌛ 10 min.

Shape the potato cakes to the size you prefer, but do not pack them too tightly.

It is best to use a dessert ring about 8 cm (3 inches) in diameter to keep the cake neat and round.

I advise you to make all the cakes on a baking sheet and to freeze uncooked any you will not be using immediately.

They can also be pan fried: place the dessert ring in the oiled pan and shape the potato cakes...

Fry until browned on both sides.
Remarks
It is really important to rinse the potatoes thoroughly after grating to remove the starch which would otherwise make the cakes stick during cooking.
Keeping: Should be eaten straight after cooking.
